Building Consensus and explaining things in terms that everyone understands are great attributes of a a game tester. Your first test on the way to be a game tester may be pursuading your parents into giving $20 to buy a Starter Kit.
We can offer some assistance. Use our handy cheat sheet to win them over. Write notes on a piece of paper, on your hand, on your cell phone, you choose.
If you need a pen, go rummage in your kitchen junk drawer. Now transcribe the following to your paper, on your hand or on your cell phone. use as needed:
Mom ( Dad, Mother, Father) I know you think that the hours and hours that I spend playing videogames is a waste of time. I just read that the Video Game Industry is in the top 4 for creating jobs, it even beats out Solar Power. You may not know this but video games can give me practice in following skills: problem solving, team work, communication, logic, fine motor and spatial skills, and may increases my chance of getting into (Harvard, MIT, Yale) by five hundred and twenty six percent ( just go for it)
I came across this cool (awesome, sick, rad, ...) site called PowerUp Games that gives guys (girls) a chance to train to become a game tester. It might even lead to an (awesome, sick, rad, ...) career in the game industry. They offer online training. This could be the beginning of my future career. I might grow up and (build a rocket, be president, knit a sweater) be a game tester or a developer. That means I would have a job. Which means I won’t be sleeping on your couch and eating everything in your fridge well into my thirties. And, most importantly, I get to have fun and make money and experience an overwhelming sense of well-being and euphoria that comes with an important accomplishment.(we know, you probably wouldn’t say that, but parents like to hear that stuff)
Game Testing is the predominate way to enter the industry and it doesn’t require a 4 year degree. It is a great way for me to try out the industry without an investment of 2-4 years and 30,000-60,000. You will be helping me discover my options without huge investment in education.
The Game Testing Training will help me learn if working with Video Games is as fun as playing them and if they do enter the industry, they are on their way to build the experience I need to get a job in it.
It is a win-win Proposition. It gives me a chance to be a self-modivated learner and I can take some of my game time and turn it into education. Even if I don't get a career in game testing, the education and skills are helpful other careers. Just think about it, you may not even have to bug me to get my homework done. So Mom (Dad) what do you think?
